Post-workout Hair Tips

There’s no better feeling than a good workout, but are you caring for your hair in the right way afterwards? Your hair needs just as much love as your skin does after a session in the gym, especially if you want to keep it healthy and strong. We’ve got a few tips to share on how to keep your hair looking fresh even if your hair washing days and workout days don’t line up.

BRUSH IT REAL GOOD

Natural oils are really beneficial for your hair! Use a boar bristle brush to comb the oils through your tresses after your workout. Take advantage of natural hair oils and use a boar bristle brush to comb your tresses. Giving your hair a good brush can help distribute those oils to the middle and ends of your hair, helping to keep it smooth and hydrated.

PRO TIP: Keep your hair in a half pony or loose braid to make brushing easier and avoid creases.

HIT REFRESH WITH A DRY SHAMPOO

Heading to dinner with the girls after a workout? Reach for the dry shampoo! If your hair is dripping wet after a workout, be sure to towel dry it before using any product to avoid buildup. Once your hair is mostly dry, focus on spraying the roots and then brush to distribute the product throughout your hair.

PRO TIP: If you’re stopping home after the gym, apply your dry shampoo before you blow dry for instant salon hair.

CHOOSE YOUR HAIR TIE WISELY

Not all hair accessories are created equal! Go for softer, ribbon hair ties over harder elastics that can pull and damage your hair. Tight elastics can cause split ends and even worse, they can thin your hair out. Avoid using these on wet hair, since hair is the most sensitive to damage while wet.

ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP

Hats and headbands are a great way to keep your hair out of your face during a workout, as long as they don’t interfere with your lifts! Just be sure to remove them when you’re leaving the gym. Those sweaty accessories can trap bacteria on your strands causing not-so-good smells. Keep an extra headband or hat in your bag that you can swap out as you’re walking out.

DETOX TO RETOX

When shampoo day finally comes around, consider using a detox or clarifying shampoo once or twice a month. These shampoos can get rid of all the buildup from sweat, dry shampoo, and styling products. Be sure to condition to avoid drying your hair out.
