5 Steps to Set Fitness Goals You’ll Actually Crush

Why Setting Goals Matters for Your Fitness Journey

Goals aren’t just about an end result. They give your workouts direction, your habits purpose, and your mind a reason to keep showing up when it gets hard.

Research shows that having a clear goal boosts motivation, confidence, and follow-through. Without one, it’s easy to skip workouts, eat mindlessly, and fall back into old routines.

But goal setting is more than saying, “I want to lose 10 pounds.”

It’s about being intentional, specific, and realistic — while creating the systems to make it happen.

5 Steps to Setting (and Reaching) Your Goals

1️⃣ Make a Plan

Goals without a plan are just wishes.

Decide exactly what you’re working toward and when you want to achieve it. Pair it with measurable actions — like tracking your macros and fiber 7/7 days or completing 4 strength workouts per week.

Example: Goal: “Lose 8 lbs in 8 weeks.” Plan: “Follow my program 5x/week, track macros daily, drink 120 oz water.”

2️⃣ Commit to Your “Why”

Your “why” is your anchor. It’s the reason you keep going when you’re tired, busy, or frustrated. Write it down somewhere you’ll see it daily — on your phone lock screen, fridge, or mirror.

✨ Examples of powerful “whys”:

  • “I want the energy to play with my kids at the end of the day.”
  • “I want to feel confident on my upcoming vacation.”
  • “I want to prove to myself I can follow through.”

3️⃣ Use Your Resources

You don’t have to do this alone. Use the tools you have — your Sesh app workouts, macro calculator, recipe library, and community.

If you’re working with a coach, lean on their guidance. If not, post in the Sesh Community to connect with other women on the same journey, especially if you don't have that IRL.

4️⃣ Stay Accountable

Accountability is everything.

Check in weekly on your progress. Be honest:

  • Did you hit your macros with 5g?
  • Did you complete your workouts?
  • Did you do your cardio or recovery work?

Accountability can come from a coach, a friend, or yourself — but it has to be consistent.

5️⃣ Reward Yourself

Having something to look forward to makes the process more fun.

Pick a reward you’ll earn when you hit your goal:

  • A new pair of leggings
  • A spa day
  • A weekend adventure

Celebrating wins builds momentum — and makes the next goal feel more achievable. Work hard to not have your reward be food-based, though. That can wire your brain to constantly be searching for that next 'cheat'!

The Big Picture

Fitness goals aren’t just about the finish line.

They’re about building confidence, skills, and discipline along the way.

When you set a goal, define your “why,” use your resources, and stay accountable, progress becomes inevitable. And when you get there? You’ll realize it wasn’t just about the goal at all — it was about becoming the version of you who could achieve it.

Next Step: Write down your goal, why, and plan today. Then log into the Sesh App and commit to showing up for yourself this week.
